2012 Chaco Culture 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin Sales Begin

Authorized Purchasers are now able to order 2012 Chaco Culture National Historical Park 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins from the United States Mint. Along with that debut, the initial sales numbers for the silver coins are also known.

United States Mint AP’s ordered 3,200 of the new bullion coins, according to sales data published by the U.S. Mint on Monday. While not breaking any sort of records, it did help to kick-start the new week.

In a comparison, the previous 2012 El Yunque National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin was released for ordering on Monday, May 21, 2012 and its sales stand at 9,900. It should be noted that initial sales are typically elevated in comparison to the weeks following a debut. The aforementioned El Yunque strike saw high sales early with 5,400 in the first week, accounting for 55% of the total sold to date.

The Chaco Culture Silver Bullion Coin is the second 2012-dated release in the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin series. It also marks the twelfth in the program overall. Each coin is struck for investors from five ounces of 99.9% fine silver to a diameter of three inches.

These coins feature unique reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories. These same designs are also featured on two other U.S. Mint series — the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program and the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin series.

Coins of all three series debuted with five 2010-dated strikes. Five new coins per series are scheduled to be released annually until the last of fifty-six per program makes its appearance in 2021. At that time, one coin of each series will feature a reverse design emblematic of a location from each state, the District of Columbia and the five US territories.

According to the U.S. Mint, mintages for the 2012 ATB Silver Bullion Coins will be determined by demand. That demand has been less than stellar as of late with the current sales across all the coin shown below.

America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, like other U.S. Mint bullion products, are sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers. These AP’s obtain the coins in bulk from the U.S. Mint, then resell them to the public for a small premium above the current spot price of the five ounces of silver contained within them.
