Today, August 13, 2012, the United States Mint started selling the 2012-P Acadia National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
Pricing for the uncirculated coin, which contains a reverse design emblematic of the national park in Maine, is listed at $204.95.
This Acadia silver coin is the third America the Beautiful silver coin released in 2012 and the thirteenth overall. The ATB coins debuted with five 2010-dated coins and will continue until 2021 with five new issues annually.
Reverse designs in the series celebrate specific sites of interest from around the United States and its territories — the same as those on circulating America the Beautiful Quarters®. And exactly like the quarters, obverses show George Washington’s portrait.
Acadia Coin Designs and Specifications
America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins are composed from 99.9% fine silver to a diameter of three inches. These specifications are identical to the bullion coins that are minted for investors and sold through the U.S. Mint’s network of Authorized Purchasers.
The Acadia coin’s reverse features Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and Acadia’s rocky coastline. It was designed by Barbara Fox and sculpted by Joseph Menna. Inscriptions include ACADIA, MAINE, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
As mentioned earlier, its obverse and all America the Beautiful related coins show a digitally enhanced rendition of John Flanagan’s portrait of former President George Washington, the first for the United States. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR. The ‘P’ mint mark, indicating the coin was struck at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia, is also inscribed on the obverse.
An edge inscription is used on each to indicate its weight and fineness. The inscription reads .999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE.
Current Sales, Mintages and Order Information
The U.S. Mint indicates that the maximum mintage for the Acadia Silver Uncirculated Coin is 25,000. For comparison, the first five 2010-dated coins in the series each had a maximum mintage of 27,000. Last year’s 2011-dated strikes had mintages of 35,000.
