Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set Weekly Sales Top 2012 Silver Proof Set
June 19, 2012 by Rhonda Kay · Leave a Comment
It was a tight sales race for the number one spot among the United States Mint numismatic silver products. The weekly winner was the 2012-S American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set, beating out the 2012 Silver Proof Set by 138 orders. Their gains were 14,164 and 14,026 respectively.
The Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set launched on June 7, 2012 and it will remain available for another 16 days until the cut-off for orders occurs on July 5. The 2012 Silver Proof Set, on the other hand, opened on June 4 and is estimated to remain on sale at least through the end of the year and perhaps several months into 2013.
In third place was the individual 2012-W Proof Silver Eagle Coin. Collectors purchased 5,469 of them in this round, which is down considerably from the 27,301 in the previous report. In fact, nearly all of the U.S. silver products experienced a sales slump compared to the prior week. The exception was the 2011-W Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin, which added 1,410 to its sales total compared to 1,218 previously.
Sales of two bullion silver coins climbed since last Wednesday. The Silver Eagles added 578,500 so the new monthly total is 1,700,000 and year-to-date sales are 16,234,000. The 2012-P El Yunque National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin surged by 1,800 versus 700 in the prior report, so its latest sales figure is just 300 coins shy of reaching 10,000.
