2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle Coins Sell Out

2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins are no longer available individually from the United States Mint as of Monday, March 11, 2013.

They had been on sale since August 2, 2012. At last count, collectors accumulated 202,504 of them.

Of course, that will not be their final figure. The 99.9% pure silver coin minted at West Point is also one of the six coins that make up the 2012 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set, which is still for sale. The set was released about one month after the individual coin debuted, and as of March 11, orders reached 18,055 (up 284 from last week’s U.S. Mint sales report). Combined, sales of 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle Coins are at 220,559 and will grow slightly each week.

Still, when compared to performances in past years, popularity of the 2012-dated Eagle is lagging.

 

As a collector piece, buyers had the opportunity to purchase the 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin at a fixed price of $50.95 directly from the Mint. Since going off sale, buyers will have to either spend $59.95 to get it from the 2012 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set or comb the secondary market.

Like the other Silver Eagles, the uncirculated silver coins are composed of one troy ounce of the precious metal. They feature Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design on the obverse and John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield on the reverse. Distinguishing factors of these collector coins are their finish and W mint mark indicating their origin at the United States Mint, West Point, N.Y.
