A popular Perth Mint silver coin series has expanded to three coins with today’s release of the 2013 Australian Map Shaped Kangaroo Silver Coin.
Silver coins of the series are unique in design as they are struck in the shape of the Australian continent. Each features a composition of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Previous issues have proven extremely desirable to collectors with every one selling out. The first two depicted a Kookaburra and an Emu.
Those silver coins had a limited mintage of 6,000. This new kangaroo silver coin also has the same mintage cap in place, signaling a likely and quick sell-out.
Kangaroo Silver Coin Design, Specifications and Order Details
The reverse of the newest coin has the likeness of a kangaroo. Surrounding the marsupial is a colored depiction of the Picnic Rocks area of Tasmania. Perth Mint artist Ing Ing Jong is credited with the design.
Reverse inscriptions include "KANGAROO," "1 oz 999 SILVER" and "2013." The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mint mark is also on the reverse.
On the obverse, a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is shown, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Obverse inscriptions surrounding the portrait include "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," "2013 and "1 DOLLAR."
