A three-coin set showcasing a trio of Australia’s most iconic creatures is now available from the Perth Mint.
Limited to 5,000, the 2013 Australian Outback Silver Coin Collection includes silver coins depicting the kangaroo, koala and kookaburra.
Coins of the collection are each struck from one-half ounce of 99.9% pure silver and have reverse designs featured in full color.
This marks the second year in which the Perth Mint has issued a collection of colorized kangaroo, koala and kookaburra silver coins in the half ounce size. Of course, the Perth Mint’s tradition of featuring the iconic creatures goes back much further, but this set offers buyers a more affordable option to add all three to their personal collection.
Australian Outback Silver Coin Designs, Specifications and Order Details
The three silver coins of the set contain colorful reverse designs of a kangaroo, a koala and two kookaburras. These designs are the work of Perth Mint artists Tom Vaughan and Natasha Muhl.
Shown on the kangaroo silver coin is an image of a single adult kangaroo in a rural scene complete with a wheat field in the background. Inscriptions read "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" and "2013 1/2 oz 999 SILVER."
Offered on the reverse of the half ounce koala coin is an adult koala sitting in the branch of a eucalyptus tree. Inscriptions surrounding the design are "AUSTRALIAN KOALA" and "2013 1/2 oz 999 SILVER."
Finally, the kookaburra silver coin shows a colorful image of two young kookaburras perched on a tree branch with native flowers shown below. Inscriptions found on the reverse include "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA" and "2013 1/2 oz 999 SILVER."
Also found on reverses of the silver coins is the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark.
Obverses indicate the coins’ legal tender status in Australia with the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions of "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and "50 CENTS."
The three silver coins are presented together in one Perth Mint display case. They ship along with a numbered certificate of authenticity that are packaged within an illustrated shipper.
