Each Wombat Silver Coin is struck from one-half ounce of 99.9% pure silver and shows a colored image of a baby wombat. Maximum mintage of the issue is limited to 10,000.

The Perth Mint offers the coin as the final release of its popular Australian Bush Babies II series. Appearing as the inaugural release in July 2012 was the Kookaburra Silver Coin. The Possum Silver Coin followed in October. This year continued the series with the Echidna Silver Coin in January and then the Platypus Silver Coin launch in April.

Rounding out the program of strikes depicting baby creatures from around Australia is this Wombat Silver Coin depicting a colorized baby wombat.

The wombat is a marsupial native to Australia," describes the Perth Mint. "Despite its fearless nature, the wombat has a short-legged muscular frame, which causes him to move slowly. Because of its stature, the wombat is known for taking short cuts. Wombats are generally not seen, but leave ample evidence of their passage. The wombat has a backwards-facing pouch, so that while digging burrows, dirt does not spill over its young."
