2013 Girl Scouts Silver Dollars on Sale at Introductory Prices

Available now from the United States Mint are 2013 Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars. Both silver coins went on sale Thursday, February 28, 2013.

These commemoratives are offered in proof and uncirculated qualities, finishes preferred by coin collectors.

Introductory Prices

For a limited time, introductory pricing is available from the U.S. Mint with 2013-W Proof Girl Scouts Silver Dollars offered for $54.95 each and 2013-W Uncirculated Girl Scouts Silver Dollars sold for $50.95 each.

These introductory prices are available until 5:00 p.m. ET on March 29, 2013. After that time, regular prices go into effect. That means a $5 increase per — proof silver coins at $59.95 and uncirculated silver coins at $55.95.

Authorizing Law

Congress authorized the silver dollars with the Girl Scouts USA Centennial Commemorative Coin Act that was signed into Public Law 111-86. Under the terms of Public Law 111-86, up to 350,000 of the Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars may be produced and sold.

Public Law 111-86 notes that the silver coins are struck "in commemoration of the
centennial of the establishment of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America."

The Girl Scouts was established on March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. In the United States, there are more than 3.2 million active members. It is the leading organization dedicated solely to girls and their success.

Order Details

Orders for 2013 Girls Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars may be placed directly with the United States Mint. They are accepted via the Mint’s website, through this page, or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

There are no household order limits in place. Each silver dollar will ship in a United States Mint display case along with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Surcharges of $10 will be collected on sales. This amount is already worked into the pricing. Surcharges go to the Girl Scouts of the USA for program development and delivery.

Girl Scouts of the USA Young Collectors Set

Later this year, the U.S. Mint will offer a Girl Scouts of the USA Young Collectors Set. The set will include one uncirculated Girl Scouts Silver Dollar. It is limited to 50,000. Pricing and other details of the set have not yet been unveiled.

Silver Coin Designs

Three girls representing the diversity of the program are shown on the obverse of the Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars. The design was completed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Master Designer Barbara Fox with sculpting done by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill.

Obverse inscriptions include COURAGE, CONFIDENCE and CHARACTER, representing elements of the Girl Scouts mission statement, along with 2013, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

The reverse of the silver dollars depict the iconic Trefoil/profiles symbol of the Girl Scouts of the USA. It was designed by AIP Associate Designer Chris Costello with sculpting completed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna.

Reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $1 and GIRL SCOUTS.

Next U.S. Commemorative Coins

The 2013 Girls Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars are offered as the first of two commemorative coin programs for issue by the United States Mint this year. The 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coins are scheduled to appear on March 21, 2013 and will feature $5 gold coins, silver dollars and half dollar clad coins in recognition of five United States Army 5-star generals.
