2013 O Canada 1/2 Ounce Silver Coins Near Subscription Sellout

A new O Canada series of one-half ounce silver coins debuts from the Royal Canadian Mint celebrating the picturesque country, wildlife and natural wonders of Canada.

Twelve 2013 O Canada Silver Coins in proof quality will launch this year and the RCM’s subscription service for them is nearing a sellout with 94% gone as of this writing. And it is possible that coins in the series will not be offered outside of the subscription. (Jump to coin images.)

"All subscriptions that are produced are part of the 40,000 mintage," the Royal Canadian Mint’s website states. "The availability of the single coins will depend on the popularity of the subscriptions."

As a part of the subscription, one of the twelve 2013 O Canada 1/2 Ounce Silver Coins ships monthly. Each features a different reverse design dedicated to the Canadian theme with a composition of 99.99% pure silver. Each weighs 15.87 grams and has a diameter of 34 mm. The series of twelve 2013 O Canada Silver Coins includes the following designs:

The Beaver
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police
The Polar Bear
Summer Life
The Wolf
Niagara Falls
The Caribou
Hockey
The Orca
The Maple Leaf (in color)
Holiday

Every proof coin is offered as part of the subscription program for $39.95. Individual 2013 O Canada Silver Coins not reserved by subscription will also be available for purchase separately. However, any of the Maple Leaf silver coins sold outside of the subscription will go at a higher price of $54.95.

The first release is the Inukshuk Silver Coin. Showcased on the reverse is an Inukshuk (a stone landmark created by humans) in raised relief with a background of icy mountains and a frozen sea. A representation of the Aurora Borealis is also offered as if illuminating the northern sky. This design was completed by Tony Bianco and includes the inscriptions of CANADA, 2013 and the legal tender face value of 10 DOLLARS.

Those committing to the subscription will receive an attractive wooden display box at no additional cost. The box is valued at $50, according to the Royal Canadian Mint, and will ship upon purchase of the third coin. As such, individual 2013 O Canada Silver Coins that ship monthly will not arrive in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell case.
