March sales of 2013 American Silver Eagles and America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins remained strong even as silver prices declined.
The United States Mint indicates 3,356,500 of the Silver Eagles were ordered in March by its network of authorized purchasers. That is down 0.36% from February but up 32.04% from March 2012.

Of course, it would be hard for sales in any month to compete with the record established in January when 7,498,000 Silver Eagles were claimed. Demand stayed strong in the following two months and the result was a record quarter. Combining the January through March period, Silver Eagle bullion coins reached 14,223,000. The tally thoroughly trounced the previous quarterly record set in the first three months of 2011 when sales hit 12,429,000.
The latest year-to-date total is significant, happening as silver prices plunged and while the U.S. Mint rationed Silver Eagles after having temporarily run out of inventory in January.
