The 2013-W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin was released for sale today, May 28, 2013 by the United States Mint.
Debut pricing for the one ounce, 99.9% fine silver coin is listed as $48.95, plus the US Mint’s standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order. No mintage, product or household order limits are in place on this release.
Uncirculated Silver Eagles are one of the US Mint’s most popular numismatic products. Last year’s individual coins launched on August 2, 2012 with sales ending this year on March 11th. During that period, 202,504 of the silver coins were recorded as sold according to the US Mint’s most recent unaudited sales figures. Another 28,368 were delivered in the several-coin 2012 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set that sold out earlier this month.
Of note, the $48.95 initial pricing for the 2013 Uncirculated Silver Eagle is $3 more than last year’s debut price. The increased price point is of interest since silver was trading in the $27 range when the 2012-dated Uncirculated Silver Eagle first appeared. Silver most recently has been toward the $22 area. The US Mint is quick to point out, however, that pricing is subject to change.
American Silver Eagle uncirculated coins first appeared from the US Mint in 2006. They have been minted annually since with the exception of 2009 and 2010 when their production was canceled as demand for the related bullion American Silver Eagle soared to record levels.
"The American Eagle One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin is struck on specially burnished blanks," indicates a release from the US Mint. "The .999 fine silver coin has a finish similar to its bullion counterpart but carries the “W” mint mark indicating production at the United States Mint at West Point. Each coin is encapsulated in protective plastic and placed in a blue presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included."
Shown on the obverse of each Silver Eagle is Adolph A. Weinman’s "Walking Liberty." The design first appeared on the 1916-1947 half dollar. Many consider it one of the most beautiful designs to appear on an American coin.
The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with shield design by John Mercanti. Obverse inscriptions include IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and 2012 with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER and ONE DOLLAR inscribed on the reverse.
