Two new releases from the Perth Mint of Australia continue a highly successful series of Koala silver coins, the 2014 Australian Gilded Koala Silver Coin and the 2014 Australian Koala 1/10 oz Silver Coin.
Both are struck from their stated amounts of 99.9% pure silver. Both also have the same koala design that graces all 2014-dated koala silver coins.
The image chosen for this year’s coins depicts just the head of the marsupial with a spray of gum leaves to the bottom, as designed by Australian artist Michael Guilfoyle. Inscribed above the design is AUSTRALIAN KOALA. Adding detail to the image of the larger one ounce coin, the koala is gilded in 24-carat gold.
Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of the releases. Inscriptions surrounding the portrait include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the legal tender face values of 1 DOLLAR for the gilded coin and 10 CENTS for the one-tenth ounce release.
Mintages are limited for the gilded coin. The Perth Mint lists a cap of no more than 5,000 to be issued in this packaging with a maximum of 10,000 of the silver coins struck. Each ships in a Perth Mint display case and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and an illustrated shipper.
In contrast, the tenth ounce coin features an unlimited mintage and will be struck to meet demand. Each smaller coin is housed in a "beautifully illustrated" presentation card, as described by the Perth Mint.
