2014 Australian Opal Masked Owl Silver Coin Sixth in Series

The 2014 Australian Opal Masked Owl Silver Proof Coin is now available from the Perth Mint of Australia. The one-ounce, 99.9% silver coin is the sixth release from the Mint’s multi-year Australian Opal Series.
Offered on its reverse is a masked owl presented on an inner panel of pure Australian opal. Mintage for the coin is limited to 8,000, the same used for previous silver coins in the series, most of which have sold out.

Two additional silver coins are scheduled for the series. They will feature reverse designs depicting the Rough-Scaled Python and a Ghost Bat.
Designs and Specifications for Masked Owl Silver Coin
On the reverse, and as designed by Perth Mint artist Aleysha Howart, the inner panel of pure Australian opal depicting the masked owl sits in the hollow of a tree. Surrounding the image is an array of eucalyptus leaves, blossoms and native flowers. A waning gibbous moon is also shown along with the Southern Cross star group. "MASKED OWL" is inscribed below.
Offered on the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and the legal tender face value of "1 DOLLAR."
Each coin is struck to a diameter of 36.60 mm, a thickness of 4.5 mm, and a gross weight of 31.135 grams.
