2014 Congratulations Set with Silver Eagle, Debut Sales

A special collectible appeared on the US Mint sales charts, the 2014 Congratulations Set. It is the first product this year to feature the 2014-W Proof American Silver Eagle — the silver coin goes on sale by itself at noon ET, January 23 through www.usmint.gov.
2014 Congratulations Set with 2014-W Proof Silver Eagle
Sales of the 2014 Congratulations Set began on Tuesday, January 14, and by Sunday, January 19 there were 692 orders. That number may seem low considering the popularity of Silver Eagles, but this particular product is only in its second year and is geared toward special occasions. With its unique packaging, this set is intended as a gift, since the Silver Eagle is encapsulated and placed within a black, white, gold and silver decorated folder. The folder has a place on its inside front cover for the gift-giver to write a personalized congratulatory message to the recipient. Pricing for the 2014 Congratulations Set is $54.95. When released, the Silver Eagle sold in its own packaging will be $52.95.
During the week, four other silver products celebrated higher demand than the debuting 2014 Congratulations Set. Taking the top spots were the 2014-P Civil Rights Act of 1964 Silver Dollars. Buyers zeroed in on the proof commemorative dollars, taking in 8,706 of them compared to 3,225 of the uncirculated silver dollars.
The 2013 Silver Proof Set was the third best seller in the silver category with an advance of 1,727 in sales, and they were closely followed by the 2013 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set, which launched last month and experienced a jump of 1,137 new orders.

In bullion Silver Eagle sales, the coins so far this week advanced 505,000 for a total of 3,969,000 since released on the 13th. The US Mint had previously noted that the weekly allocation would be about 500,000 – 600,000 coins. There were also 111,000 leftover from last week’s allocation. The January total so far will be at least the highest since sales in July reached 4,406,500.
Wednesday, Jan. 22 is the "as of sales date" for the bullion Silver Eagle.
