A successful and unique program from the Perth Mint of Australia known as the Land Down Under series is expanded with the recent debut of the 2014 Proof Gold Rush 1 oz Silver Coin.
This coin appears as the first 2014-dated release of the series and is composed of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Mintage is capped at 5,000.
Shown on each silver coin is a colored design emblematic of the gold rush boom of 1851.
"Australia is a continent rich in history and the famed gold rush of 1851 triggered a period of radical transformation for the remote penal colony," describes a release from the Perth Mint. "The population and the economy boomed at an unprecedented rate, bringing about new towns, cities, trade, cultures and infrastructure, seemingly overnight."
This new issue is the fifth silver coin to appear in the series which was created to showcase aspects of Australia’s discovery, ancient culture, enviable lifestyle and iconic landmarks. Previous program releases centered on themes such as Captain James Cook, Surfing, the Didgeridoo and the Sydney Opera House.
