2014 Orangutan Silver Coin Ends Mother’s Love Series

Closing out the Mother’s Love five-coin series from the Perth Mint of Australia is the 2014 50c Orangutan 1/2 Oz Silver Proof Coin.

Struck from one-half ounce of 99.9% pure silver with an issue limit of 4,500, this silver coin features a color design of a baby orangutan climbing over its mother’s shoulder.

"The remarkable bond between a mother orangutan and her baby is the only true union among these great apes," describes the Perth Mint. "Mother orangutans nurture their young for a number of years, during which time they teach them how to climb, socialize and build their own shelter for sanctuary."

The collectible piece is the last of five silver coins in the Mother’s Love program. Previous series releases include:

Coin Designs and Specifications

Designed by Perth Mint artist Ing Ing Jong, the baby and mother orangutan are seen in a rainforest with an above inscription of ORANGUTAN. A ‘P’ mint mark is off to the left.

Struck as legal tender of Tuvalu, obverses offer Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 2014, TUVALU, 1/2 OZ 999 SILVER and 50 CENTS.
