Collectors can start buying 2015-P Kisatchie National Forest Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins from the United States Mint, beginning at noon ET on Tuesday, April 28.
Limited to 30,000, this coin is composed of 99.9% pure silver, struck to a three-inch diameter and has a reverse design emblematic of Louisiana’s only national forest. It is the second of the 2015-dated issues from the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins™ Program, and the 27th overall since the first ones launched in 2010.
Kisatchie National Forest Silver Coin Design
This silver coin for collectors shares the design of the Kisatchie quarter, which started its journey into circulation earlier this month and is now available in U.S. Mint-sold roll and bag products. The coin design shows a wild turkey in flight over blue stem grass, with a long leaf pine in the background. Inscribed around the scene are KISATCHIE, LOUISIANA, 2015, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The image was crafted by Susan Gamble and executed by Joseph Menna.
Also just like the quarters, obverses or heads side of America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins bear John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington. Inscriptions encircling the effigy read: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
Unlike quarters, an edge inscription appears on each coin reading .999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE.

Bullion Version
Intended for investors, the U.S. Mint also produces 2015 Kisatchie National Forest Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins as part of its related America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin program. The Kisatchie bullion coin was released on April 20. It opened with first-day sales 23,000 and now has sales of 29,800. It has the same designs as the uncirculated versions but it lacks the ‘P’ mintmark.
Also, whereas the U.S. Mint sells collector uncirculated coins directly to the public, all bullion coins are sold through the agency’s network of authorized purchasers. These distributors buy them in bulk from the U.S. Mint and resell them to coin dealers, precious metal dealers and some to the public for a small premium above the current melt price of the five ounces of silver each has.
