A limited-edition product from the Perth Mint of Australia uniquely features four rectangle silver coins in proof quality.
Named the Lunar Calendar Series 2014 Year of the Horse Rectangle Four-Coin Silver Set and having a mintage cap of 3,000, each coin depicts a different colored image of horses in the wild.
This series complements the Perth Mint’s annual Lunar Series II program which featured several new releases earlier this year. Among them were four Year of the Horse Silver Proof Coins that debuted in September.
People born in the "Year of the Horse" include those with birth dates of 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014. Associated individuals are believed to have traits such as optimism and intense energy.
Silver Coin Designs and Specifications
On reverses of each of the four rectangle silver coins is a different colored image of a horse in a mountain landscape. Joining the creatures is the Chinese character for ‘horse’ and the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark.
Obverses feature Raphael Maklouf effigy of Queen Elizabeth II along with encircling inscriptions of ‘1 DOLLAR’, ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘COOK ISLANDS’ and ‘2014’.
Coins of the 2014 Year of the Horse Rectangle Four-Coin Silver Set are struck as legal tender under the authority of the Government of the Cook Islands.
