A week and a day after they launched, 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Sets unofficially sold out.
On Tuesday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. ET, the United States Mint provided a sales update for the set and said their household ordering limit was lifted. Sales at the time had reached 71,114, or 94.8% of the authorized maximum of 75,000. Just a few hours later, the sets became unavailable. The Mint announced:
"The March of Dimes Special Silver Set (DM5) is currently unavailable. This means that we are currently out of this item, but more may be available later. Customers can visit the product page and provide their email using the ‘REMIND ME’ button and they will be notified when we are taking orders again."
Their sales kicked off on Monday, May 4, for $61.95 with an original 5-set household ordering limit. (See more photos of the silver set.) Just over 70% sold in the first day. Fewer than 4,000 remained at the time the Mint ended the ordering limit on Tuesday.
Each set includes a proof March of Dimes Silver Dollar from West Point, a proof Roosevelt silver dime also from West Point, and a reverse proof Roosevelt silver dime from Philadelphia. The dimes are only available in the set, and both mark firsts for the U.S. Mint.
