United States Mint sales of its 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set begins Friday, Feb. 20, at noon ET.
This product has five 90% silver coins in collector proof quality. It’s very popular with coin collectors, and sales are expected to reach over 100,000, based on performances of similar older sets in the series.
Although the proof set only has a combined face value of $1.25, it has 0.904 troy ounces of silver, and that equates to about $14.87 in melt value at silver’s current spot price of $16.44 an ounce. That’s nearly half of the set’s regular issue price of $31.95.
All 90% silver coins are struck at the United States Mint in San Francisco, California, so all have a ‘S’ mint mark. This year’s America the Beautiful Quarters include:
- 2015 Homestead National Monument Quarter
- 2015 Kisatchie National Forest Quarter
- 2015 Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter
- 2015 Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge Quarter
- 2015 Saratoga National Historical Park Quarter
Designs on the quarters’ reverses (tails side) are emblematic of the national sites in Nebraska, Louisiana, North Carolina, Delaware and New York. Obverses share the same John Flanagan’s 1932 portrait of George Washington.
The five coins represent the twenty-sixth through thirtieth designs in the series of America the Beautiful Quarters. The America the Beautiful Quarters® Program kicked off in 2010, and it includes five new releases annually with each showcasing a different reverse design that honors a national site from the 50 states, the District of Columbia or one of the five US territories.
When released, the set may be ordered directly from the United States Mint by visiting its online listing of proof sets — sort by "New Products."
