2015 Silver Coin Set for ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary

Featuring historic First World War designs, the Perth Mint of Australia this week released the ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary 2015 Silver Proof Three-Coin Set.

Each of the three coins is struck to collector proof quality from one-half ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Designs depicted include Bravest of the Brave, Billies for the Troops and Spirit of the Fallen.

The five-year ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series is produced in association with the Australian War Memorial. Along with other coins issued in the program, there are new three-coin sets scheduled for release annually from 2014 through 2018. Accordingly, a five-year subscription is also available, with a limited number of enrollees receiving a replica billy tin designed specifically to house all fifteen coins of the series.

ANZAC Spirit Silver Set Designs and Specifications

Here are brief details about the coin designs that are emblematic of a historic image from the First World War:

• Bravest of the Brave – The design shows the Anzacs as they fought their way above Anzac Cove. A single soldier appears in color. 1915 and BRAVEST of the BRAVE is inscribed above.

• Billies for the Troops – A woman shown in color is seen in the design handing a soldier a billy tin. Inscriptions include 1915 and BILLIES for the TROOPS.

• Spirit of the Fallen – A lone pine tree is offered on the reverse of this coin. Soldiers are seen walking through the trenches on the left of the tree, and a colored likeness of the Lone Pine Memorial is on the right. Inscriptions are 1915 and SPIRIT of the FALLEN.

All three designs are completed with a traditional red poppy.

Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II appears on obverses of the three silver coins, which is indicative of their status as legal tender of Australia. Inscribed around the portrait are ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2015, 50 CENTS and 1/2 OZ 999 SILVER.

Specifications of each coin include a diameter of 32.60 mm, a thickness of 3.10 mm and minimum gross weight of 15.591 grams. Sets have a limited mintage of 5,000.
