2015 Sunburnt Country Silver Rectangle Coins in Set

Commemorating Dorothea Mackellar and her iconic poem, My Country, the Perth Mint has released a set of four 2015 Sunburnt Country Silver Rectangle Coins depicting rare and beautiful landscapes of Australia.

MacKeller began writing her famous poem in 1904 while traveling abroad in London but feeling homesick for Australia. It was published in 1908 under its original title, Core of My Heart, but became better known in later years as My Country.

"The Australian countryside was a continual source of inspiration for Dorothea Mackellar, and today, it remains a major influence for many Perth Mint collector coin programs," said Ron Currie, the Perth Mint’s Sales and Marketing Director. "We are truly honored to commemorate this renowned poet and her contribution to Australian literature," he added.

The Perth Mint notes that the set will be available for delivery from April 15. The first coin from the set is also released individually, and is entitled 2015 Sunburnt Country – A Land of Sweeping Plains 1oz Silver Rectangle Coin. It shows a colorful likeness of the Australian plain with two kangaroos grazing on the wildflowers, as designed by Perth Mint artist Natasha Muhl. Above the scene is I LOVE A SUNBURNT COUNTRY …A land of sweeping plains.

The other three 2015 Sunburnt Country Silver Rectangle Coins will also be issued separately, in two month intervals from April to December. Each depicts an image of a natural landscape and a native Australian animal. Also, each has the inscription I LOVE A SUNBURNT COUNTRY, plus a line from the second stanza of the famous poem describing the depicted scene. Those lines are:

• Of ragged mountain ranges,
• Of droughts and flooding rains, and
• I love her jewel sea

These coins are composed of 1 oz of .999 fine silver. Each has a gross weight of 31.135 grams, a thickness of 4.00 millimeters, and a rectangular shape of 47.6 millimeters by 27.6 millimeters. The issue limit per individual coin is 4,250 and the four-coin set is held at 750.
