The United States Mint’s newest silver product, the 2016 Limited Silver Proof Set, launches this Friday, November 25, at noon ET.
Sets have seven 90% silver coins minted in San Francisco and a 99.9% silver coin struck at West Point. Coins include:
- One 2016-W 30th Anniversary Proof American Silver Eagle.
- Five 2016-S America the Beautiful Silver Quarters with designs commemorating Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and Fort Moultrie (Fort Sumter National Monument) in South Carolina.
- One 2016-S Kennedy silver half-dollar.
- One 2016-S Roosevelt silver dime.
Combined, the coins have a silver weight of about 2.34 ounces.
These silver coins are not unique to this set, having also been released earlier in other U.S. Mint products. Despite that, sales of the set should be solid. Released annually since 2012, with the exception of last year, past sets have registered sales ranging from 42,614 to 47,971.
Last year’s set was delayed from a November release because of packaging issues. Then in December, a law passed that mandated all proof and uncirculated American Silver Eagles sold in 2016 have a smooth edge and incused 30th anniversary edge lettering. With the sales time stinted, the U.S. Mint decided to cancel the set’s release.
Like in past years, the 2016 Limited Silver Proof Set has a product limit of 50,000. Its price is $139.95.
