2016 Silver Proof Set Launch Results

The 2016 Silver Proof Set, one of the most popular annual United States Mint products, debuted on Monday, April 18, and its sales hit 176,733 by Sunday.

This year’s inaugural figures trailed last year’s, with the 2015 set opening with 184,613 orders, even though the newest silver set had a longer initial time frame for its first reported sales. One reason for the lower initial numbers is likely due to competition with a more expensive but special edition 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin.
On the investor side, bullion American Silver Eagle sales shot up by 977,000 between Monday and Wednesday, leaving 110,500 available from the 1,087,500 coins that were allocated by the Mint for the week. As 2016’s record pace continues, total sales are at 18,914,500 coins and are 32.6% higher compared to the same time in 2015.
The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, April 24, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Wednesday, April 26, is the as of date for the bullion products.
