2016 Silver Proof Set Lead Sales for Seven Straight Weeks

For each of the past seven weeks, the 2016 Silver Proof Set has out-sold all the other collector silver products from the United States Mint.

Its total rose by 3,133 units in the latest round to settle at 229,394. The set’s nearest contender for the week was the 2016-P Proof National Park Service 100th Anniversary Silver Dollar, which climbed by 670. There will be a new winner in the line-up in the next sales report, because the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin launched today, July 14.

In the investor market, demand rebounded slightly for bullion American Silver Eagles as compared to last week. Through Thursday a total of 445,000 coins had been ordered versus 250,000 in the previous seven-day window.

The U.S. Mint rations Silver Eagles sales, but its latest weekly allocation has grown to 3,649,500 coins due to continued production of new coins and unsold inventory. At this writing, 87.8% of this week’s allocation is still available.

The year-to-date total for the bullion American Silver Eagles reached 26,945,500 and is about 10% more than the same time in record selling year 2015.
