The United States Mint released today its 1-ounce, .999 fine American Liberty Silver Medal, a companion piece to the 225th anniversary 2017 American Liberty Gold Coin.
The medal features the same design as on the gold coin, with the obverse showing a modern rendition of Liberty wearing a crown of stars and the reverse depicting an eagle in flight. Its price is $59.95.
In terms of its size and weight, the medal matches American Silver Eagles. It has a diameter of 1.598 inches and a weight of 1.000 troy ounces. Unlike American Silver Eagles, the silver medal lacks standard coin inscriptions and it has a plain edge.
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint and carrying a ‘P’ mint mark, this medal features a proof finish. Later this year, the U.S. Mint will release four other American Liberty Silver Medals in a set. These will have varying finishes and come from each of the four U.S. Mint production facilities.
