2017 Proof Silver Eagle Debut Sales

The U.S. Mint launched the 2017-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin on Thursday, March 23 and sold 233,010 of them in the first day. By Sunday, that total jumped up to 266,173.

Compared to last year’s release, however, it was definitely a slower start. In only three days the Mint had sold 322,000 of the 2016 version, which hit the market in September and commemorated the series’ 30th anniversary.
In related news, bullion Silver Eagle sales climbed by 320,000 during the final week of the month. March sales ended at 1,615,000 coins and year-to-date sales clocked in at 7,957,500 coins. The ascension was up 32.9% from February’s ending number of 1,215,000 but on the other hand it was 60.7% lower than the 4,106,000 Silver Eagles that sold in March last year. Overall, 2017 sales are 46.5% behind the 14,842,500 coins that had sold during the first three months of 2016.
The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, March 26, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Friday, Mar 31, is the as of date for the bullion products.
