American Silver Eagle Bullion Coins Rebound in August 2012 Sales

Supported by a 12.6% increase in U.S. silver prices, interest in American Silver Eagle bullion coins surged in August as purchases of the investment-grade coins rose 26% over previous month.
Sales of 2,870,000 qualified the month as the second best August in the 26-year history of the American Silver Eagle program, falling right behind sales from one year ago.

Demand for American Silver Eagles has been strong the last few years and 2012 is already a top-five year with sales of 22,540,000. While 2012 is not likely to race to the number one slot, it has achieved the number four position with still four months left in the year. 2011 became the banner year when the American Silver Eagle attained the title of best ever with an annual total of 39,868,500.
Sales of 2012 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins
Also competing for silver investors’ money were America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins. Sales for these large coins grew to 19,400 for a total of 97,000 ounces — the best month this year.
Buyers were most fond of the coin honoring Chaco Culture National Historical Park of New Mexico. It advanced 9,600 to 17,000. Next was the most recently issued silver coin honoring Acadia National Park in Maine with its 5,200 advance to 15,100.

Recent Collector Silver Coin Sales
In collector silver coins, appearing from the United States Mint on Thursday, August 2, 2012 was the American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin. Since its debut, the U.S. Mint has sold a total of 5,075.
A few days later, on August 7, the U.S. Mint released the Making American History Coin and Currency Set which includes one 2012-S Proof American Silver Eagle and a Series 2009 $5 bill. Sales of the set reached 33,878.
Finally, the U.S. Mint released the 2012-P Acadia National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on August 13, 2012. In two and a half weeks, 7,626 have been ordered.
