American Silver Eagle Bullion Coins Soar in September 2012 Sales

U.S. Mint sales of American Silver Eagle bullion coins surged in September, realizing double digit percent gains over August and ranking in the top fifteen for all-time monthly sales.
3,255,000 bullion Silver Eagles were ordered in September by U.S. Mint authorized purchasers, marking a 13.4% increase from the 2,870,000 sold in August. The rally is more notable when considering that August came in 26.0% higher than July.

American Silver Eagle bullion coins have year-to-date sales of 25,795,000. With three months left in the year, 2012 is already firmly in the fourth position as the best sales year ever, and that dates back to the program’s start in 1986.
It appears likely that 2012 will at least reach the third best spot, a position currently held by 2009 with 28,766,500. In order to reach the number two spot, the last three months of this year would have to average sales of over 2,955,833 coins. At that pace, 2010’s number of 34,662,500 would be surpassed.
2012 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins
Investors also purchased America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins during September. Leading the pack were the 2012 Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 5 oz. Silver Bullion Coins as they made their debut earlier in the month.

September Collector Silver Coin Releases and Sales
Two other silver coin products were released by the U.S. Mint in September. One of those products was the United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set. It debuted on September 6, 2012. This set contains one 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle produced at the United States Mint at West Point, four 2012-P 2012 Presidential $1 Coins and a 2012-D Native American $1 Coin. Sales figures show a total of 8,091 as of October 1.
Also appearing in September was the 2012-P Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. It was released on September 24, 2012. Since then and also as of October 1, a total of 9,186 have sold.
