Best Ever August for Bullion Silver Eagles

The United States Mint’s bullion American Silver Eagles have taken off. Not only was August the third highest selling month this year, but it was also the best August for the series since its start in 1986. The month ended with sales of 4,935,000.

It would have ended a higher if sales had not been restricted. The U.S. Mint in July temporarily suspended bullion Silver Eagle sales and then followed that up with weekly rationing. This latest week, the Mint allocated one million coins, and that is exactly what it sold by Wednesday. Prior weekly allocation amounts have also been claimed by mid-week or sooner.

The Silver Eagles this year have noticeably been on a record pace. The current year to date number hit 32,495,000, which beats sales of 28,111,000 through this day last year.

On the numismatic side of the weekly Mint stats, the 2014-W Proof American Silver Eagle did it again, outpacing all of the other silver products with a gain of 19,582. The next best sellers were the 2015 Silver Proof Set, adding 3,204 orders, and the 2015 US Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Proof Silver Coins increasing by 827.
