Featuring a grizzly bear with a freshly caught fish, this collectible $100 face-value silver coin is offered for $100, much like the Mint’s popular $20 for $20 series of silver coins.

Grizzly bears are large omnivores known for feasting on fish like trout, salmon and bass. While their numbers may be dwindling, they can be found in the wilderness across Canada.

This 2014 $100 Grizzly Silver Coin is the second released in the Wildlife in Motion series, following the 2013 $100 Bison Silver Coin that sold out just days after it launched in May 2013.

Each coin is crafted to matte proof quality and struck in 99.99% fine silver. The coin’s diameter spans 40 mm, and its edge is serrated. Its weight comes to 31.6 grams, which translates to 1.016 troy ounces of silver. With the latest spot price ringing in at $21.86 an ounce, its melt value totals $22.21.

Canadian artist Claudio D’Angelo designed the coin’s reverse. Inscriptions surrounding the scene read, ‘CANADA’, ‘2014’ and ‘100 DOLLARS’ for the coin’s legal tender value. On the obverse is Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with inscriptions that include, ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘D.G. REGINA’.

Currently, pre-orders for the coin are being accepted from Royal Canadian Mint Master Club members. Master Club members are those who have spent at least $1,000 in a year for RCM products.

Update: On Monday, Sept. 23, ordering opened for everyone.

When available to everyone, and it should be within a day or two, this product may be ordered directly from the Royal Canadian Mint at 1-800-267-1871 (Canada), 1-800-268-6468 (United States), or online at www.mint.ca. The mintage limit for the Grizzly Silver Coin is 50,000, and its household limit is three.

These silver coins are GST/HST/PST tax exempt, though shipping and handling charges and tax on shipping applies.
