The latest U.S. Mint sales stats revealed the top seller among numismatic silver products was a debuting product. Initial demand seemed solid enough as collectors bought 24,130 of the Making American History Coin and Currency Sets.
Other best sellers included the uncirculated and proof 2012 American Silver Eagle coins as well as the 2012 Silver Proof Set.
Making American History Coin and Currency Sets
When the Making American History Coin and Currency Set opened on August 7, there was some concern in the collector community about the 2012-S Proof American Silver Eagle in it, since the coin also appeared in the 2012 American Silver Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Proof Set. The sentiment must not have been too strong though, considering more than 20K sets sold by Monday, August 13. On the other hand, the series 2009 $5 bill featuring Abraham Lincoln’s portrait and a serial number beginning with "150" may have supported opening sales for the Making American History Coin and Currency Set.
Other Top Sellers
Scoring second of the highest sellers was the 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle Coin with a gain of 11,303. It debuted in the previous round with 123,801, so the latest sales total hit 135,104. The 2012 Silver Proof Set was the next most popular, rising by 5,563, and the 2012-W Proof Silver Eagle Coin followed with 4,632.
In the bullion market, the investment-grade American Silver Eagles climbed by another 625,000, which was slower than the increase of 765,000 in the last report. The latest jump was enough to move the total for August above 1 million to 1,390,000, and the year-to-date total to 21,060,000.
