Effigy Mounds 5 Oz. Coin and Boys Town Silver Dollar Sales Debut

2017’s first big collector coin launched on March 7, and by Sunday March 12, the opening figure for the 2017-P Effigy Mounds Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin hit 14,363. It was the undisputed leader in this week’s United States Mint sales stats.

This massive 3-inch diameter 99.9% silver collectible features the same designs as its quarter-dollar counterpart and is the 36th in the Mint’s series of America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. (Read about its release.) The bullion version, targeting silver investors, launched February 6 and 19,500 have sold.

Also debuting on the silver sales charts were the 2017 Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Silver Dollars. (Read about their release.) They launched on March 9 and their initial numbers came to 9,044 for the proof and 4,959 for the uncirculated. The total for the Boys Town Three-Coin Proof Set, which includes the proof silver dollar, reached 3,123.
