Effigy Mounds Silver Bullion Coin Debuts

On Monday, February 6, the United States Mint began selling the 2017 Effigy Mounds National Monument 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin to its network of authorized purchasers.
The new bullion coin features the same designs as on the circulating Effigy Mounds quarter.
First-day sales reached 7,500 coins, and by the end of the week, the Mint had sold 17,700 of them. The coin represents Iowa’s national site, and it is the first of five America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins for this year. It features the same designs as on the Effigy Mounds quarter, which was also released on Monday.
In the latest U.S. Mint’s weekly sales stats, the five bestsellers across all numismatic offerings were silver products. The most sought after item was the proof 2017 Lions Clubs International Centennial Silver Dollar. Consumers ordered 4,711 of the proofs, which have been on the market since January 18. To-date, the Mint has sold 34,528 of them.
Close behind the commemoratives was the 2016 Uncirculated American Silver Eagle with 4,289 in sales, and it was followed by the anniversary-styled proof Silver Eagle, which added 1,484 to its total. Fourth place was the 2016 Silver Proof Set’s 1,163 orders.
In fifth place was the uncirculated 2017 Lions Clubs Silver Dollar. The public bought 1,085 of them in this round, which bumped its total sold up to 10,047. It should be noted that the prices for the Lions Clubs Dollars, which are $47.95 for the proof and $46.95 for the uncirculated, will increase by $5 after 3:00 p.m. ET on February 21.
