Fort Moultrie 5 Oz Silver Bullion Coin Debuts

Stealing the spotlight in the latest U.S. Mint sales stats were the 2016 Fort Moultrie 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin and the American Eagle silver bullion coin.

Tuesday, November 15, was the first day that the U.S. Mint reported bulk sales of bullion Fort Moultrie coins to its network of authorized purchasers. Initial sales hit 24,800 and have not changed yet. It is the 35th strike in the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin series that began in 2010, and it represents South Carolina — depicting the same designs as on the recently released Fort Moultrie quarter. The U.S. Mint has the collector five ounce version scheduled to launch on December 8.
Bullion Silver Eagles had their highest weekly sales since January after more than 1.5 million coins sold. November’s mid-month total reached 2,196,000 and the new year-to-date figure hit 36,596,500.
On the numismatic silver front, the individual 2016-W Proof Silver Eagle kept the top spot with a gain of 10,703, and the 2016 Silver Proof Set came in second with 4,623 orders.
