Only a few more hours remain before introductory prices expire for the 2013 Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollars.
Prices for the silver dollars climb $5 after 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday, March 29, 2013. The 2013-W Proof Girl Scouts Silver Dollars move to $59.95 from $54.95 and the 2013-W Uncirculated Girl Scouts Silver Dollars go to $55.95 from $50.95.
As is often the case with modern commemorative coins, the U.S. Mint offers them at introductory prices for about a month before regular prices go into effect. The Girl Scouts coins launched on February 28, 2013.
Authorized under Public Law 111-86, the silver coins celebrate the 100th anniversary founding of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (www.girlscouts.org). Sales of each dollar include a $10 surcharge that is paid to the organization for program development and delivery.
To date, and historically typical, the proof version of the silver coin is the most popular. In the latest weekly U.S. Mint sales stats as of March 25, 2013, proof silver dollars advanced 5,701 to 58,746 and uncirculated silver dollars added 2,292 to 23,366. That places their overall sales total at 82,113, which is 23.5% of their authorized 350,000 mintage as outlined under Public Law 111-86.
At a yet to-be-determined date, the U.S. Mint plans to release a Girl Scouts of the USA Young Collectors Set that is limited to 50,000 units. It will include one of the uncirculated $1 silver coins. Pricing has not been published, or any other details.
2013 Girl Scouts Silver Dollars may be ordered directly from the United States Mint website at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
