Kennedys Up, Basballs Silver Coins Down

With the holiday season right around the corner, collectors kept their eyes on silver coins. The weekly United States Mint sales stats revealed the two biggest sellers in the white metal category were coin sets, not individual coins.
Leading sales was the 2014 Silver Proof Set, which moved up 7,251 in this round to 345,627. And, not far behind was the 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Silver Coin Collection. This unique commemorative set jumped by 6,770 to reach 144,572.
Still moving, but in the downward direction, were both of the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coins. The uncirculated Baseball silver dollars only changed by -1 while the proof version dropped by 13. Negative adjustments have happened before; these silver dollars went off sale in April when their cumulative orders hit the maximum 400,000.
In the investor arena, sales of American Silver Eagles took off. More than one million coins sold when sales resumed on Monday, and more were picked up Tuesday. As of Wednesday, November’s month-to-date total had been bumped up to 2,610,500. In order to exceed 2013’s year-end sales, the Mint would need to produce 1,943,501 more.
