On Friday, February 6, the United States Mint revealed the coins that will comprise the 2015 March of Dimes Silver Set, a special commemorative product that’s scheduled for release later this year and part of a group to celebrate the 75th anniversary founding of the March of Dimes Foundation.
This set will have three 90% silver coins, with two of them being never-before produced Roosevelt silver dimes. Specifically, the set will contain:
- 2015-W Proof March of Dimes Silver Dollar from the West Point Mint with a "W" mint mark
- 2015-W Proof Roosevelt dime struck at the West Point Mint with a "W" mint mark
- 2015-P Reverse Proof Roosevelt dime struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a "P" mint mark
The silver dollar is the same as one of the two that will be available individually beginning on March 13, 2015. It will be offered at an introductory price of $46.95. The other is the uncirculated silver dollar, which will be marked $3 less.
Each Roosevelt dime, however, is unique. It could be said that the reverse proof is more unusual since the U.S. Mint has never struck a dime with this finish. The proof silver dime is less so because the Mint makes them each year to place inside silver proof sets.
Proof dimes are typically produced at the U.S. Mint facility in San Francisco, and they have a "S" mint mark. Dimes were last struck at the West Point Mint in 1996 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series. Included in the 1996 Uncirculated Set, there are 1.457 million of them.
At this time the United States Mint has not announced the silver set’s on-sale date, its price, or any limits.
