New 2016 Uncirculated Silver Eagle Tops U.S. Mint Sales

With the gift-giving season in full swing, sales of United States Mint’s silver products went crazy.
The new anniversary 2016-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle was the U.S. Mint’s top weekly seller
By far, the most sought after item was the newly released 2016-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle. Shoppers scooped up 134,925 of them, which was the best opening weekend for the new strike over the last four years. (Read about its release.)
The two next best sellers in silver were the 2016-W Proof Silver Eagle with an increase of 18,062 orders and the 2016 Silver Proof Set with its weekly gain of 12,014. Even the 2016 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set did well, adding 7,816 during its first full week of availability.
As for the other newcomer, the 2016 Congratulations Set that launched on Tuesday, November 29, shoppers gave it the best start it has ever seen by picking up 1,568 units. As mentioned in an earlier post, the annual product debuted in 2013. Inaugural numbers were 1,414 back then, followed by 692 in 2014 and 733 in 2015.
Finally, the bullion 2016 Silver Eagle sold out this week. Next year’s version will go on sale January 9. An upcoming article will discuss the two events in more detail.
