Splashing onto the numismatic silver scene was the collector 2012-P Acadia National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
Inaugural sales hit 6,552 between its launch date of Monday, August 13 and August 20, illustrating renewed interest in the America the Beautiful coin series.
The Acadia silver coin topped opening sales of the previous 2012-dated issues by 187 and 38. Collectors purchased 6,365 Chaco Culture Silver Coins during its debut week of July 9 to July 16, and buyers scooped up 6,514 of the El Yunque Silver Coins with one less selling day from May 29 to June 4. Still, demand was not as great as it was for 2011-dated coins which started with sales above 7,000.
It should be noted that the Acadia silver coin debut sparked more interest for the other America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins and their investment-grade bullion counterparts, as each experienced greater week-over-week performances. Acadia and Chaco Culture bullion coins jumped 4,100 and 700, respectively. Then the collector Chaco Culture and El Yunque uncirculated coins climbed by 582 and 155.
Most popular among collectors, however, was not the newest coin according to the latest U.S. Mint sales figures below. 2012-W Proof Silver Eagle coins led with a weekly increase of 9,542 followed by the Making American History Coin and Currency Set which garnered 6,769. The Acadia silver coin was third and barely beat the 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle Coin that jumped by 6,110 in this round.
