The 2011-P Olympic 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin debuted last week and sparked greater collector activity for other United States Mint silver products. Every available item saw increases over the prior week’s gains.

The biggest mover, though, was not the new Olympic uncirculated coin. It was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. It racked in another 9,608 orders which pushed its total sales to 517,309. In order to reach the level attained by the 2010 issue, after collectors bought 791 more in this round, this year’s set will still have to rise by more than an additional 61,000.

As for the Olympic uncirculated coin, it opened with 8,662 in sales by Monday, December 5. Its six day start was slower than the 2011-P Glacier coin’s seven day debut of 10,680 sales back in October and the 2011-P Gettysburg coin that started with 9,549 after five days in September.

Certainly having a better start this month are the American Silver Eagle bullion coins. 806,000 were picked up by the United States Mint’s authorized purchasers over the last six days. That amount is already more than half of November’s total of 1,384,000. By this time last month, only 376,000 had been picked up.
