Reminder: Lincoln Bicentennial Dollar Prices Increase Monday, Mar. 16

Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar - UncirculatedThe best time to buy bicentennial Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollars is now, with prices set to rise on Monday, March 16, at 5:00 pm ET. The proof Lincoln dollar will increase by $4 to $41.95 while the uncirculated dollar will go up $2 to $33.95.

The coins have been extremely popular with collectors. The latest silver coin figures show a total of 380,585 have been sold since they went on sale in Feb.

Only 500,000 will be minted, making it extremely likely the series will sellout. Additionally, 50,000 are reserved for a special five-coin set yet to be detailed by the Mint. More than likely, only days remain before the Mint will stop selling each coin individually.

As noted last week in a companion article on CoinNews, current eBay auctions show bidding for MS69 and PF69 specimens around $12-$18 higher than current Mint prices. And MS70 and PF70 coins are now being sold for about 4X the intro prices. While ungraded silver dollars are listed for less, it only seems logical to expect that secondary market prices will soon rise across the board given the circumstances at hand.

The US Mint page for each coin is located at:

The Lincoln commemorative silver coins, as well as the four newly redesigned 2009 Lincoln Pennies celebrate the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth on Feb. 12, 1809.
