Today, at noon Eastern Time, the United States Mint started selling the 2016 Ronald Reagan Coin & Chronicles Set for $68.95. This last set in the series includes a silver coin instead of a silver medal like past sets. It also has an exclusive clad coin.
There are 150,000 sets possible, and there is a household ordering limit of three sets — at least for now. The set’s contents include:
- 2016 Presidential $1 Reverse Proof Coin (with an "S" mint mark);
- 2016 American Eagle Silver Proof Dollar (with "W" mint mark);
- Ronald and Nancy Reagan 1 1/2-inch Bronze Medal (made at the Philadelphia Mint but without a mint mark);
- An engraved Ronald Reagan Presidential portrait from Bureau of Engraving and Printing; and
- Booklet including information and images from Reagan’s life and Presidency.
The reverse proof Reagan $1 is found only in the set. The Silver Eagle is the 30th anniversary proof edition, the same one that is sold by itself for $53.95. Reagan authorized the series of American Eagle Silver Coins when he signed the Liberty Coin Act into law.
The bronze medal is a replica of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan for their distinguished records of public service on behalf of the American people and international community.
Ordering
The Ronald Reagan Coin & Chronicles Set is available from this U.S. Mint product page or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
Recent past sets sold out quickly, but their product limits were much lower than the 150,000 cap established for this set. Last’s year’s sets had limits ranging from 17,000 to 50,000. If Reagan’s set remains available for awhile, its household ordering limit will likely get lifted.
The coins, medal, and engraving are displayed in a rich blue folder covered in soft-touch material with a handsome textured look and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
