Sales Decline for Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Defenders of Freedom Set
May 17, 2012 by Silver Coins Today · 1 Comment
In one week, the 2012 Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar Defenders of Freedom Set lost 2,709 in sales. Its total retreated from 46,436 in the previous round of United States Mint sales stats to 43,727 in the latest batch of sales numbers.
Possible reasons for the sharp decrease in sales include customer returns, cancellations, and accounting adjustments. Interestingly, shipping of the Defenders of Freedom Set has been delayed until August 14, per the United States Mint website.
The set is priced at $51.95. It launched on February 16 and contains:
- one proof Infantry Soldier Silver Dollar,
- a replica dog tag and chain
- a decorative folder with a famous quote from President Kennedy and the US Army motto.
There are no household limits, but the mintage for Defenders of Freedom Set is limited to 50,000.
Silver products that maintained their popularity in this round were the 2012 Proof Silver Eagles which added 10,490 and the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set that gained 1,729. The next most popular item was the proof Star-Spangled Banner silver dollars with an increase of 1,149.
Bullion American Silver Eagles finally took off this month. Last week their monthly total was sitting low at 360,000. But over the last few days it jumped to 1,410,000. Helping push demand has been the slow decline in the price of silver, which at $27.25 an ounce on the London Fix on Wednesday.
