Sales of 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars on the Rise

With less than one month to go before sales of 2012 commemorative coins are discontinued, demand for Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars is on the rise.
U.S. Mint sales of proof Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars advanced the most in months. Weekly orders reached 1,710 after rising 1,291 previously. Overall, these silver coins were the third best-selling silver products for the week. Available since March 5, 2012, their new sales total hit 110,199.
Other commemoratives posting weekly sales in excess of 1,000 were Star-Spangled Banner Bicentennial Silver Dollar Sets at 1,172, and proof Infantry Soldier Silver Dollars at 1,063.
The second best-selling silver product for the U.S. Mint was the 2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin. It advanced by 4,608, helped by the holiday season and the sellout of its proof counterpart. In the prior report the uncirculated Eagle added 2,751 to its total. 159,227 have now been scooped up by collectors since its release on August 2, 2012.
The hottest numismatic silver product was the 2012 Silver Proof Set. Its sales was also up comparatively, ringing in at 9,698 and bringing its year-to-date total to 340,685. In the last report 8,422 were ordered.

Star-Spangled Banner commemorative products are limited to 100,000 gold coins across all applicable product options, which includes the Two-Coin Proof Set. The silver dollars have a limit of 500,000.
