Sales of 2013 American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins Near 38 Million

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the US Mint’s 2013 American Eagle silver bullion coin made a single day jump of 749,500 to not only top 37 million but approach 38 million, easily driving toward a new annual record.

More Silver Eagle sales have been notched in one day before, but not recently. Actually, the one-day gain was better than the weekly totals since the end of August. Sales for 2013 are now at 37,724,500. The annual record for the bullion coins belongs to year 2011 when sales reached 39,868,500. That year, it took until Nov. 28, 2011 for sales to hit where they are now. In going back through all the years since the 99.9% pure silver series was introduced in 1986, the year 2011 is the only one that has a sales total that is higher than the one for this year.

On the numismatic front, the latest weekly US Mint sales stats did not reveal much. As usual, orders for 2013-W Proof Silver Eagles remained high, but there were not as many this time compared to the prior report. Between Monday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 13, buyers ordered 11,688 more after picking up 15,755 during the first week of the month.

Demand lagged for other silver coins as well. In fact, the only numismatic silver product to log stronger numbers was the 2013-P Great Basin National Park Silver Uncirculated Coin, which improved by 172 versus 163 earlier.

For the 2013-P White Mountain National Forest Silver Uncirculated Coin that recently sold out, its sales total fell 168 to 20,523. The drop was not all-together surprising, since many factors could cause it, such as customer returns, order cancellations, accounting adjustments, or incomplete processing due to an address or credit card verification conflict.
