Sales Slacken for US Mint Numismatic Silver Coins and Products

Sales were less than perky in the latest United States Mint sales report regarding numismatic silver coins and related products.

The 2013 Silver Proof Set, the 2013 Proof Silver Eagles, and certainly the 2013-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle saw waning consumer interest.

Lazy sales numbers from the Mint are not unusual during the summer, but adding pressure is falling silver prices. Numismatic silver coins could see further weakness as silver has plunged today, making silver coin premiums even higher. The U.S. Mint last week said that it was thinking about lowering silver coin prices. As of this writing, that has not happened.

Starting with the most dramatic sales stat of the week, the U.S. Mint has sales for the 2013-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle dropping 7,262 to 115,304. This could be buyers returning and canceling orders as they hope for an upcoming price cut.

The most popular numismatic silver products in this latest round were the 2013 Silver Proof Set and the 2013 proof Silver Eagles, with each advancing 3,739 and 3,498 respectively. Gains from before, however, were higher at 4,517 and 9,071.

Bullion coins, which are sold based on the very latest price of silver, are faring much better. U.S. Mint Authorized Purchasers grabbed 826,000 bullion Silver Eagles since the last report, which is a strong total though lower than prior reported 907,000.
