Silver Coin in Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set Not Sparking Sales

The 2012 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set, containing a 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle along with five other clad dollars, advanced by 1,606 during its first full week of availability. Combined with its initial sales, the total number of sets purchased by collectors crept up to 6,547.
It represents a much slower start than that of the previous silver set release, the Making American History Coin and Currency Set that debuted in August. Its initial sales had kicked off with a start of 24,130 orders followed by another 6,769 in the first full week. Of course, the coin and currency set is completely different because it celebrates two anniversaries, will not be an annual set, and features a 2012-S Proof Silver Eagle coin.
In the latest round of U.S. Mint sales stats, the Making American History Coin and Currency rose by another 1,778. With that jump, its latest sales total clocked in at 39,432.
The one silver product that is stealing a great many collectors’ attention is the 2012-W Proof Silver Eagles. Their most recent weekly sales increase soared by 41,853, making them the most popular numismatic products that the U.S. Mint has to offer. While they crossed the 600K milestone in the previous round, their latest jump was already enough to tip them over the 700K marker. In all, the total number of Silver Eagles sold hit 701,291.
