Silver Coins Lead US Mint Weekly Sales

All top three sellers in the latest United States Mint weekly sales stats contained silver. The one with the highest sales was last year’s coin, the 2016 Proof American Silver Eagle, and it was followed by 2016 Uncirculated Silver Eagles and the proof version of the new 2017 Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Silver Dollar.

The 2016 Proof Silver Eagle features a smooth edge for special etching that reads, "30th ANNIVERSARY." With 4,450 new orders in this round, after getting 1,136 in the previous one, its total sales bumped up to 550,054. Perhaps this surge in popularity has something to do with its successor and the Mint’s latest release, the 2017-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin that went on sale on March 23.
Second place uncirculated Silver Eagles brought in 3,449 orders and third place Proof Boys Town Silver Dollars saw 3,094 orders. The Boys Town commemorative coins hit the market on March 9.
One significant slide, in the wrong direction, was the 2017 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Its sales dropped by -3,535 to 50,024. Sometimes an adjustment of this size has to do with an accounting audit in addition to customer returns or credit associated cancellations.
The table below shows the latest sales stats for collector coins and related silver products from the U.S. Mint. Sunday, March 19, is the as of date for the standard collectibles and Friday, Mar 24, is the as of date for the bullion products.
