Less than 24 hours remain to buy American Silver Eagles from the United States Mint. The agency will stop selling the silver coins and all products with them at noon ET on Dec. 30, 2015. Dates of issues range from 2013 to 2015. In addition, going off sale at the same time are all 2015 commemorative coins.

US Mint Gains Flexibility in Silver Coin Composition

A small change in the law could soon mean big changes for collector silver coins and sets produced by the United States Mint.
Silver coins in U.S. Mint Silver Proof Sets, like the one from 2015 shown in the photo, are struck in 90% silver and 10% copper. The U.S. Mint now has the authority to strike them in higher silver purities.

American Eagle 2015 Silver Bullion Sales End at All-Time Record

Popularity of American Eagle silver coins hit an all-time high in 2015. Silver Eagle bullion sales ended on Tuesday, December 15, at a new annual record for the United States Mint at 47,000,000 coins.
2015 bullion sales of American Eagle silver coins topped the prior annual record by 6.8%.
As a comparison, the previous record was set in 2014 with year-end sales totaling 44,006,000 coins. Read More…
Smooth Edges for Collector 2016 American Silver Eagles

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the first issue of American Silver Eagles. To acknowledge the event, Congress has dictated changes to the program for next year’s collectible versions.
In 2016, collector versions of the American Silver Eagle will have a smooth edge with incused lettering. All issues, like the 2015-W Proof Silver Eagle shown above, have had reeded edges.

The newest star in the United States Mint’s lineup of silver products is the 2015-P Saratoga National Historical Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
The 2015-P Saratoga Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin sold out.

US Mint Silver Coin Sales Ramp Up

The United States Mint’s weekly allotment of bullion American Silver Eagles was set at 920,500 coins on Monday, and all of it was ordered by Tuesday. Two more weekly rounds of rationing are left, since the Mint said it would continue to produce 2015 Silver Eagles through the week of December 7. Currently, the year-to-date record sales equal 44,850,000 or 844,000 more than last year’s sales.
